Welcome to Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks

Areas of the research team

The convergence of the Internet, communications and information technologies, coupled with recent engineering advances in electronics, is paving the way for a new generation of inexpensive mobile devices, sensors and actuators. These devices have only limited computing power, storage capacity and communication capabilities. The wide and ad hoc deployment of these devices has a significant impact, not only on science and engineering, but also on a broad range of applications relating to critical infrastructure protection and security, disaster relief operations, health care, environment monitoring, production control, and quality of life. Ubiquitous computing is such a new paradigm of computing, which is invisible but everywhere. However, the development of software for such kind of systems has brought up new challenges in the areas of network protocols, distributed algorithms, user interface, privacy, and computational methods.
